One of the few places in Kenya where tropical rain forest can be found is in the Aberdares. Rising to 12,000 feet on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley, this range of montane forests comes to life as an opera playing nature's most exotic lyrics: thundering waterfalls, trumpeting elephants, the cacophony of rare birds, and the sounds of stampeding buffalo.
The rain forest harbors many unique species: leopard, crowned eagle, to name a few. In the remote Salient area, primeval plants such as heather, giant lobelia and liana strewn campherwoods combine into an ecosystem reminiscent of other planets only known from science fiction movies.
Your camp will be set in peaceful deciduous groves, away from all signs of human habitation. You will be as alone as you have ever been, at peace with nature. You will witness the misty dawn as the forest comes alive: an elusive Bongo crosses your path, buffalo rush to a waterhole as monkeys swing overhead.
A sojourn in the Aberdares is mandatory if you wish to see the Kenya that "mini-bus tourists" will never experience: a solemn embrace of your soul by nature.
