Accomodations

Most of the quality hotels in Kenya are owned by chains such as Sarova, Block, and Lonrho. These include accommodations in Nairobi and Mombasa as well as the game lodges. In Mombasa, accommodations center around the resort hotels in Nyali Beach. Nairobi has the best selection of accommodations, with a range of quality and affordability. A popular tourist favorite is the Norfolk Hotel. This old colonial hotel is luxurious and well maintained.

Be aware that lodges located outside of the boundaries could require long game drives to reach the parks. Permanent tented camps are located in several of the main parks, and are comparable in most respects to the lodges, including price. The main difference is the camping feel of sleeping under a canvas tent. Don’t expect to be roughing it at these camps, with comfortable beds and private bathrooms inside your tent. Full kitchens and other amenities are located on site.

The quality camps offer the same comfortable beds and private bathrooms featured in permanent camps. Private ranches offer another means to see the beautiful countryside. The ranches provide unique opportunities to live with local families and try horseback riding, walking safaris, and night drives. Most accommodations in Kenya include bed and breakfast in their rates, with lodges and camps including full meals.
