Mail

Mail service from Kenya is fairly reliable, particularly in larger cities. Mail sent to and from Kenya should be delivered in a week or two, but packages sent by surface mail can take considerably longer. In Nairobi, main post offices are open from 8 am to 6 pm. Others will have limited hours and may be closed in the afternoon. If your planning to send packages, it would be a good idea to use the main post offices in Nairobi. Take the packages unwrapped so it can be inspected by a customs official before you wrap it. Bring your own boxes and wrapping materials.
Telephones

You can make direct dial domestic and international telephone calls from Kenya. Be aware that hotel are likely to charge a sizable surcharge to make calls from your room. In smaller towns, international calls can be made from the post office by connecting to the international operator in Nairobi. These operator assisted calls can be very expensive. Local and long distance calls can be made from public phones in most towns. The trick is to find one. Make sure you have coins available.
Telegrams

Telegrams can be sent by phone using an operator. Telex and fax facilities are available at many post offices.
